Physical Education Teacher

Responsibilities
  • Develop students' physical skills, abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork.
  • Develop and administer physical education classes consistent with school goals and objectives.
  • Teach knowledge of, and develop skills and abilities in, physical fitness, coordination, agility, exercise, and sports.
  • Develop students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and social skills; provide a safe and optimal learning environment; offer appropriate feedback regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student growth and progress in physical education activities and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs.
  • Ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Coordinate with other professional staff members, especially with physical education and grade level faculty, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Coach one team per season (fall, winter, and spring).
Professional and Personal Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; a graduate degree in education or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience as a physical education teacher or coach, especially in an elementary or middle school setting, is desirable.
  • Proven organizational and motivational skills.
  • Knowledge of appropriate safety measures to ensure the well-being of students.
  • Flexibility in working with others.
  • A growth mindset and an openness to feedback as the means of achieving personal and professional growth.
