LFCDS’s library supports the School’s mission to develop students of strong character with a passion for learning by providing excellent literature and resources for all grades and by teaching lifelong information literacy skills.

The LFCDS Library Catalog/Home Page (found at library.lfcds.org) is the place to access both the print and online resources the library has to offer.

The library houses about 15,000 volumes, including print, periodical and audio-visual materials.  The large collection of picture books, beginning readers and easy non-fiction supports students in the Early Childhood Center and the early primary grades.  As students’ skills develop, a wide variety of novels as well as non-fiction and reference materials that address both curricular areas and areas of personal interest await them. The library makes the Grolier Online suite of encyclopedias available to our students and families.  This includes general, scientific and geographical encyclopedias at three levels.

Over 30 print periodicals, ranging from early childhood science magazines to professional journals are housed in our library.  Additionally, we subscribe to EBSCO’s Middle Search, a database of magazine and newspaper articles available at the School and at home for our school community.  Here students can get up-to-date materials on a wide range of topics.  In cooperation with the Information Technology department, the library also provides access to United Streaming, a video-on-demand service.

From Junior Kindergarten through  fourth grade, students at LFCDS visit the library on a regular basis.  These visits include instruction in library skills and introduction to the materials in our collection through read-alouds, book-talks and assisted browsing time.   Moreover, the library sends crates of books to classrooms throughout the school, supplementing classroom libraries in various subjects and at needed levels. Upper School (Grades 5-8) students visit the library on as-needed basis, for research with a class, for independent reading material and during  study hall.

Parents of LFCDS students have borrowing privileges at the School’s library.  The library staff is happy to assist parents in finding the materials they want.  Parents are also welcomed and treasured volunteers who perform a variety of tasks that keep the library running smoothly.

Our beautiful library, with its cathedral ceiling and working fireplace, is open during school hours and until 4:00 pm most afternoons. The staff consists of a fulltime librarian and two part-time library assistants. If you have any questions, please contact Marcia Banzuly, head librarian, at 847-615-6152.
