A LETTER FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear LFCDS Families,

Greetings from campus! I hope you and your family have enjoyed a restful, joyful, and rejuvenating summer. While you were away, our campus has remained active with summer programs, facilities improvements, planning, and preparation for another exciting year of learning.

One of my favorite parts of the start of a new school year is hearing about the moments that shaped our families' summers. Whether your time was filled with travel, family gatherings, new experiences, milestone celebrations, or simply opportunities to slow down and recharge, I hope it provided meaningful moments of connection and renewal.

As for me, a highlight of my summer was celebrating my 30th wedding anniversary with my wife, Leigh. One of the most meaningful aspects of that celebration was reconnecting with several couples who have been dear friends for decades and who attended our wedding. Spending time together reminded me of the enduring value of friendship and the relationships that sustain us through life's many seasons. It was a special opportunity to reflect with gratitude and create new memories together.

That experience also reminded me of one of the things I value most about LFCDS: our community. At the heart of our school are the meaningful relationships among students, families, faculty, and staff. As we begin another school year, we look forward to welcoming new families to our community, reconnecting with returning students and parents, and partnering together in the important work of helping every child discover their strengths, develop their character, and pursue their full potential.

As we begin the 2026-2027 school year, one of our most significant collective efforts will be our ISACS re-accreditation self-study. This important process will invite us to reflect on our strengths, identify opportunities for growth, and consider how effectively we are advancing our mission and living our core beliefs. While accreditation is an important milestone, the self-study is ultimately an opportunity to celebrate who we are as a school, examine where we aspire to grow, and thoughtfully shape the future of LFCDS.

We are grateful to the members of our Accreditation Steering Committee, especially co-chairs Abby Acuna and Kate Zubrod, for their leadership. Throughout the year, families will have opportunities to engage with and contribute to this important process, and we look forward to your partnership and perspective.

We are also excited to welcome a talented group of new faculty and staff members to the LFCDS community this year. Each brings unique experiences, expertise, and perspectives that will enrich the learning experience for our students and strengthen our school community.

Thank you for the trust you place in LFCDS and for the many ways you contribute to the life of our community. The partnership between school and home is one of our greatest strengths, and we are grateful for your support, engagement, and shared commitment to our students.

As we begin this new school year, I am filled with optimism and excitement for all that lies ahead. Guided by our mission, grounded in our core beliefs, and united by a shared commitment to our children, I am confident that we will continue building a school that honors its traditions while boldly shaping what comes next.

I look forward to seeing you on campus soon and to an outstanding year together.

In partnership,

John Melton
