Mary Ballard Community Service Award

For Mary Ballard, and for those students receiving this special award,
the real gift is not in receiving but in giving.
The Mary Ballard Community Service Award is named in loving memory of Mary Ballard, a former LFCDS teacher, mother, and tireless volunteer who was the recipient of the Bondy Hodgkins Award in 2004. Mary believed in the importance of giving to her community. In all her endeavors she worked with unfailing focus, energy, and dedication. Through the generosity of those close to Mary, the Community Service Award recipient receives $500 intended not for him or her, but to donate to an organization of his or her own choosing. For Mary, the real gift was not in receiving but in giving.

It is an honor to keep Mary’s commitment to service alive by recognizing another who shares her generosity of heart and spirit. The intent of the award is to honor a student who, like Mary, acted above and beyond what was required by the community service program. The recipient must demonstrate leadership and a commitment to serve others with respect and compassion.
