Lower School Assistant Teacher

The Lower School Assistant Teacher is a college graduate who aspires to be a lead teacher. The role supports the classroom teacher in providing a nurturing and dynamic educational environment for young learners. Responsibilities include assisting with lesson delivery, preparing instructional materials, and facilitating classroom activities to promote student engagement and learning. The assistant will also work closely with students, offering individualized and small group support and reinforcing positive behavior and academic skills. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with the lead teacher and other staff members to ensure a cohesive and effective educational experience. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about education and eager to contribute to a vibrant school community. 

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Assisting the lead teacher with classroom instruction 
  • Assisting in the preparation of lesson plans and instructional materials 
  • Leading small group activities or discussions as needed 
  • Helping maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment by assisting with behavior management and reinforcing classroom rules and routines 
  • Supervising students during class, recess, lunch, and other activities 
  • Assisting with grading assignments, quizzes, and exams and/or providing feedback to students on their work 
  • Handling administrative tasks such as taking attendance, maintaining records, and organizing classroom materials, preparing and distributing learning materials 
  • Offering one-on-one or small group support to students who need additional help 
  • Communicating with the lead teacher about student progress and any issues that arise 
  • Supporting extracurricular activities, field trips, and special projects
Qualifications: 
  • A bachelor's degree in education or a related field. 
  • Previous experience working with young children in an educational or childcare setting is preferred 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment 
  • Patience, flexibility, and a passion for fostering a positive learning environment for young children
